Long Time, No Post – Quick 3D Test

It’s been a while since my last update, but hopefully I’ll have something new to share soon.

In the meantime, here’s a quick 5-minute test I did to experiment with turning a 2D image into a stereo 3D effect. Just a small exercise, but it was surprisingly fun to play around with depth and separation using simple layers.

More coming soon. Stay tuned.

Batgirl Sketch – A Teaser I Can’t Wait to Finish

Some sketches come together effortlessly. Others, like this one, demand a little more time and space to breathe. This quick Batgirl sketch definitely falls into the latter category, but not for lack of inspiration.

The new Batgirl design is just fantastic. It has such a fresh energy and strong visual identity that I immediately felt the necessity to dive in and capture something of it. Unfortunately, time wasn’t on my side today. What started as a quick exploration turned into a teaser for something I now really want to finish properly.

Even in its rough state, this sketch has been a reminder of how a well-designed character can completely ignite your enthusiasm. The costume, the attitude, the storytelling potential, there’s a lot to play with here and I plan to push this one further when I can carve out the time.

And while we’re on the topic, to all of you heading to San Diego Comic-Con this year, just know that I’m deeply envious. That kind of creative atmosphere is always a blast and it would’ve been the perfect place to share something like this in person.

More on this Batgirl piece soon. Until then, here’s a peek at the rough stage.

Trying Out Manga Studio

I have to say, despite the less-than-friendly interface, Manga Studio (now known as Clip Studio Paint) is a fantastic piece of software. Once you get past the initial layout, the tools and brush engine are really impressive.

Here’s a drawing I made while testing it out—hope you’ll enjoy it! More experiments to come.

Sargent Self-Portrait Study

It’s been a while since I sat down to do a proper study, and every time I do, I’m reminded how valuable the practice is. There’s always something to learn, whether it’s about brushwork, structure, or just slowing down and observing properly.

This one is a study of John Singer Sargent’s 1906 self-portrait. A classic, and always a challenge.

Painted in Corel Painter, and for those who are curious about timing: it took exactly 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Hope you enjoy it.
